Keswick Photographic Society Presentation 14/10/2026
This week members were treated to a stunning presentation of local photographs by full time local photographer, Mark Hetherington.
Photographers like Mark, whose remarkable images we have just witnessed, seem never to be indoors when there is a sunrise, sunset or in deed any other phenomenon or spectacle to capture.
Mark Hetherington’s obsession with photography is to capture not just the view, but the light, the atmosphere and the impact. He’s an advocate of Joe Cornish’s work whose interpretation of TLC is not tender loving care, but Timing, Light and Composition. In order to achieve this, Mark utilises his skills as a photographer, fell runner and rock climber to be on fell tops, lakesides and all the iconic lake district viewpoints at dawn or dusk, in snow and ice or wind and rain. This often entails setting off in pitch darkness to navigate tricky routes to fell tops for sunrise or descending such routes after sunset.
As if such feats were not enough, it was revealed after the first half of Mark’s presentation, which concentrated on the landscapes, that he often stays on the fells well after dark. The second half of his presentation included wonderful images of the Milky Way or the Aurora Borealis from many locations across the Lake District.
Many of Mark’s photographs were from well known landmarks such as Buttermere, Derwentwater, Blea Tarn, Rydal Water, Blencathra and Scafell, but they were most definitely not reproductions of the familiar. He successfully captures impact and atmosphere in very well composed creations.
Beacon Camera Club Presentation 11/12/2025
Mark showed us his thoroughly enjoyable presentation of the "Lake District by Day and Night". All of Mark's images were ones that you would be happy to hang on your wall.
A lot of the locations were for the fitter photographers amongst us which included some serious hiking routes to get to the best locations in the Lake District.
In the second half of the evening Mark showed us some stunning Aurora and Milky Way shots
with great reflections of the skies in the Lakes with detailed information on how best to capture the night sky.
Mark was open to questions throughout the evening and stayed at the end to chat to members.
I would definitely invite Mark back again for a different presentation

Monmouth Photographic Club Zoom Presentation 28/11/2025
We had the pleasure of being one of the first recipients of Mark’s Zoom presentation, showing us the “Lake District by Day and Night”. Mark provided a thoroughly enjoyable and informative presentation, showing us numerous amazing images of an area that he obviously knows extremely well, and is very passionate about. Not only did we see tremendous photos to show the various different elements in each area, in different lighting and conditions, and in each of the different seasons, but he also demonstrated his intimate knowledge of the places visited and the best times and locations to do so - not to mention the extreme efforts that he goes to in order to be there for the best possible outcomes. In summary - a great presentation, showing fantastic images of a wonderful area!

Personally I loved the more subtle / atmospheric images – they are more emotive to me, but I still applaud your skills in taking the wide range of night and day images you capture and the persistence and planning you bring to your photography.
I cannot believe that was your first club presentation!!!
